Sift. The Egyptian word for shit. And this is the most appropriate word I can find right now. On the one hand as it describes the situation rather well, and also, because I am rather speechless right now. Mubarak has spoken. But he hasnt said anything new. NOT A THING. He has basically repeated his pledges from Tuesday 2nd February (consider: the night before he unleashed his thugs on horses and camels on the protesters) which include not running again in September, investigating the outbreak of violence, persecuting those responsible for it and amending the constitution – mixed with acknowledging the pain of the families who have lost a member in the protests. The gap between the aspirations and hopes stirred up by the announcement of his speech and the speech itself could not have been larger. And of course the excitement and hope of protestors instantly turned into anger. It's gonna be a hot night in Egypt.
As my blog is down another note from earlier today (with many tiping mistakes I assume, but after Mubarak's speech most of it is irrelevant anyways....or at least: all assumptions and statements dis-proven by reality)
